The Value of Transparency in Public Office
WY State Auditor Kristi Racines
CMC, MMC, APT
Financial transparency and accessibility to the state’s financial data is a crucial part of the Auditor’s Office. Transparency in government should be the norm and not the exception. WyOpen was launched in the Auditor’s Office on July 17, 2019. This transparency website provides an online checkbook of Wyoming state expenditure data. It includes payments made by the state of Wyoming through the Wyoming Online Financial System (WOLFS) to vendors for the purchase of goods and services. Users can search, view and download expenditure data by state agency, vendor name, vendor location and expenditure category. Anyone should have access to our state’s expenditures. Putting Wyoming’s checkbook online is a critical step in ensuring Wyoming taxpayers understand how our public funds are spent.
The Full Institute runs each Thursday from April 1-22.
