Listen to Your Body - Navigating Stress in the Workplace

Tuesday, October 18, 2022

Stress is the underlying cause of numerous chronic diseases worldwide. According to the CDC (2020), "Stress plays an important role in several types of chronic health problems-especially cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, and psychological disorders." This workshop aims to provide a roadmap to recognizing the warning signs of stress. Municipal clerks will learn to do simple exercises to reduce the levels of stress that can be associated with health issues in the long term. Emotional stress and uncertainty can affect how you manage your job, family, and your overall wellbeing. It is critical for municipal clerks to recognize what stress looks like in their everyday lives and work to take steps to learn and build a more resilient strategy.

The program will explore:

An overview of Stress and its prevalence in the municipal clerk role

Identifying personal areas of stress in your role at work

Learning easy strategies to implement today, whether virtual or in the office

Understanding the body-mind connection and why the science of stress is important

Understanding and identifying social support networks to cope with the challenges in reducing stress

Learning to recognize muscle tension in the body and how to adjust for greater relaxation using mindfulness strategies

    Learning to ask for help
