Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!!!? How can deadlines be met when there are meetings to attend, phone calls and e-mails to answer, and citizens to be helped? Most days, our plates seem too full, and it is impossible to accomplish everything!? This session will provide participants with some excellent tools to manage their time and the many projects that may be on their plates. This course will help clerks better understand distractions and interruptions that can derail productivity. In addition, even the most seasoned clerks will have an opportunity to learn some techniques for prioritizing tasks and projects to gain control of their time and more efficiently and effectively meet deadlines. Points: 1 CMC or 1 MMC Advanced Education Point

Instructor: Dr. Jane Long

LongJ_ADA-65-1Dr. Jane Long currently serves as the ADA's Senior Manager of Learning, Talent, and Development, providing professional development opportunities to more than 400 staff members. She also does consultation work with other non-profit organizations, some of which have included the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and Make-A-Wish Foundation. She has presented over 100 interactive education sessions at national, state, and local conferences, ranging from leadership to strategic planning.  

Before working with non-profit organizations, Dr. Long spent 18 years in higher education as a faculty member and high-level administrator. She has taught online, and on-campus for several colleges and universities nationwide, and online learning remains a focus of her continued research. 

Dr. Long completed her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne in Southern California. She also holds a Master of Science in Professional Leadership from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. She also completed her Certified Professional Coaching certification in 2019. Dr. Long is married to her husband of 34 years and has a son who is 31 and married.
