Region XI Symposium

The second two-day Region XI Symposium will be held in Brussels, Belgium in 7th and 8th September 2017.

2017 cover page.JPGOur Symposium Program - “Broadening your Horizons—a European Perspective” will provide an opportunity to meet with and learn from inspiring international speakers and your colleagues around the world about democracy in action with a specific focus on Europe.  Translation Services will be provided. 

This Symposium is open to everyone. Those working toward their Certified or Master Municipal Clerk designation will also earn CMC/MMC points for certification.

The sessions will serve to engage with local authority chief executives and clerks on the key EU policy issues that have a significant impact on the work of local authorities and municipalities throughout Europe. The Symposium will be a key opportunity to debate these issues with policy makers and senior managers from local and regional government over the two days.


CMC and MMC Education Points for the Brussels Symposium have been assigned - Total hours possible = 10.25
Total points possible = 5.13 CMC Education or 5.13 MMC Advanced Education Points


No registrations will be accepted after Monday 21st August 2017.

Symposium attendance of the individual sessions is free of charge for all delegates.

Your registration constitutes a legally binding agreement. Full payment must be made in US Dollars and received at time of registration.

All requests for cancellations must be made in writing to IIMC Headquarters by e-mail to , or fax (909/944-8545). Telephone cancellations will not be accepted. Cancellations received on or after 5th August 2017 are non-refundable. If written notice is received by 4th August 2017, regardless of what is cancelled, a full refund minus a US$40.00 handling and processing charge will be received.

Refunds will not be issued for late arrivals or early departures. No refunds will be made for skipped events. Registrants that do not attend the symposium and did not cancel by the deadline will forfeit all registration fees paid, unless the inability to attend was due to verifiable personal or family medical emergency. In this instance, the postmarked deadline to receive the documented written request for a refund less US$40.00 is 4th August 2017. Regretfully, no considerations will be made after this date. IIMC Headquarters will process any refund due within 30 days after the end of the symposium.

In the unlikely instance that IIMC has to cancel the event, IIMC will issue a refund for the registration fee. IIMC will not be responsible for any other costs.

You cannot begin to imagine how many attractions this city offers with almost 90 museums, beautiful parks, fascinating walks, along with trendy restaurants and bars.

The negotiated rate for overnight accommodation at the Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place is €150 for a single room including breakfast and €160 for a double room including breakfast (usual rate is €199 per night). The rate includes VAT & Service but NOT City Tax which is currently charged at €7.58 per night.  Rates available 6th – 9th , you must book by 9th of August 2017.

Note: If booking accommodation through an outside company, even if it is also at the Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place, you will be bound by the terms and conditions of that company.
