Organizational Change in Public Service
Course Goals
The goal of this course is to guide students through the selected, classic literature on managing change and conflict in their organizational and personal lives. The focus is to improve their thinking about these two intertwined phenomena to make them better Municipal Clerks.
Course Requirements - This course is divided into eight learning modules and a final assessment comprised of the following:
- Readings and Quizzes: There is no book required for this course. Instead, students will read articles and selected readings and take quizzes related to them. After the student has taken the quiz, the instructor will score it and let them know how they did.
- Threaded Discussion Forums: Students are required to engage the articles and selected readings and each other by participating in threaded discussions on the message board. The instructor will ask the students to read lectures to react to as well. Students post their contributions by “adding a thread” and by their comments. They are required to do two things: Add their contribution and respond and react to the contributions of their virtual classmates.
- Final Assessment: Integrative Essay. At the conclusion of the course, students are required to write an essay that incorporates what they have learned from the articles and selected readings that were posted, the threaded discussion forums and integrate these ideas into a 1,500 word essay that they will e-mail to the instructor. More information will be forthcoming during the course.
